2014 C22 Oktoberfest Regatta Recap

A brief recap by Reid Collins aboard "Chicken Ship".
Overall we dominated although the results don’t show it. To add some background a few of the results that skew how we did.
Race 1 – We were launched but they had a separate finish line for a separate class (we were to finish through the start/finish line.) We had to sail back to the other finish line. We didn't have any SIs on the boat because Nashville apparently was farther from Lake Lanier than I remember and we pretty much got there, set the boat up, and went sailing. Should have had a 1 in that one instead of a 2.
Race 4 – On the wrong side of a 40 degree persistent shift.
Race 5 - Complete drifter. We lead by 10 boat lengths the entire race until about halfway down the run of leg 4 (of 5.) Breeze completely shutoff and then filled in elsewhere bringing 4 boats by me. I was helpless. Got a couple back before the short beat back to the finish.
Race 6 – Stupidly short course. Probably a 1/2 mile legs (with a mid-leg start making the 1stweather leg even shorter) and only a 3 leg course. Led everyone off the line, but didn't have enough runway to extend and cross the boats on my hip to get back to the right. There was not enough legs in the race to make it up. Should have accounted for that in my start.
