2015 Thistle Meigs Regatta

Posted by on July 13, 2015

The Meigs regatta, this past weekend, offered a great preview to the 2015 Thistle Nationals. That event is scheduled for July 26-31 and North Sails OD team is preparing for a great event.

My team and I made the trip to check the site and sail the venue, though we've been there before. It is always nice to refresh the lay of the land. The weather was pretty nice with Saturday offering a great Sea Breeze (210) and steady, 9-13 kts. My team posted a solid 2,1,1 sailing our 2014 Dieball sails, which are now available as North DSD designs. Our set up was per the tuning guide with rake at 26'10.5", tension on the forestay at 325lbs. We use a shaved step that give us a nice range of bend through the various conditions that load and unload the mast.

Sunday we had a light Northerly with 5-9 knots. This direction showed some more volatility and reminded us that we need to not only be fast, but attack the race course rather than just sending it.

Ft. Walton is excited to host the Nationals again. The venue is set up nicely for Thistle sailing and the organizers are eagerly awaiting everyone's arrival.

On a personal level, the venue will be hot.....you will need to drink lots of water, wear light colored clothing and bring a new SPF....check the expiration dates on that old tube in the boat!
