Aug 2011 Newsletter - OD Round Up

ONE DESIGN NEWS

The number of classes that we offer sails to continues to grow. For years, we have offered sails to the traditional midwestern dinghies, but more recently, weʼve teamed up with great sailors all over the country and take our design/build success and spread our wings into other areas. Check out the classes we offer here.

INTERLAKE NEWS - New in 2011 we launched our D-CUT radial upwind sails. The designs are based solely off the shapes that earned National Championships in 2006-2009. Easy to trim and adjust, our upwind sails are the standard! With the new D-CUT layout, these already durable sails will enjoy even more performance life! Check out our Interlake Sails here.

LIGHTNING NEWS - D-CUT sails were first tested in the fall of 2010 and rolled out into the market after a successful run in the Southern Circuit. These sails have an easier set up than our existing cross cuts in that the mast blocking and lower tensions are more forgiving. New in 2011 will be our Max-O Spinnaker. Bi-Radial in layout to properly align cloth strength with strain, while lowering the overall weight by reducing the number of seams. Stay tuned to our web site for more info on the Max-O.

THISTLE NEWS - Why mess with perfection? Because we cannot rest on what got us the National Championship in 2011. Pushing the performance curve is what we have been doing for nearly 10 years in sail design. Look for changes with our new D-CUT Thistle Sails in the winter of 2011/2012. Love our existing FP & BA sails? Donʼt worry, they are the standard and will always be available! Look for, too, this winter in our testing of the Max-O Thistle Spin. Better performance over time!

HIGHLANDER NEWS - D-CUTs are coming! Our 2012 Highlander sails will be enjoying a face lift of sorts this winter with our Dacron radial success. You see, the Highlander is unlike any of the conventional dinghies. Its size and speed mean that there are advantages to utilizing cloth weight and orientation in the end product. Our designs have won the last 3 National Championships and we will be looking to make our sails even better in the Fall. These new designs will be available under our Winter Discount Program.

J-22 NEWS - Our own Skip Dieball has been busy bending Rick Rothenbuhlerʼs ear all summer as the enhancement of our J22 products is continual! The boat and sail plan yield different dynamics through with wind ranges and as such, Skip and Rick are simulating these differences in the Azure modules. The result is easier to adjust rig and trim settings! Give us a call to learn more as we are constantly getting our shapes ready for the big 2011 events!

DAY SAILER NEWS - Donʼt mess with perfection was what Mike Gillum said after the NAs. We get it. We know when things are right, but behind the scenes we are implementing the D-CUT technology for the Day Sailers as well. More on this to come in the coming months on our web site. Max-O spinnakers will make their debut in the

spring in the DS class too! As with any of our existing designs, they are always available and can be shipped within a few weeks!

T-10 NEWS - With the NAs on Lake Michigan, the scene on Lake Erie was a little less intense and a little more relaxed this summer. Dieball Sailing has delivered sails that have been the performance standard for nearly 5 years and we continue to work with our clients to gain feedback. Rick Rothenbuhler developed a new Technora Membrane jib for Scott Irwin this summer and the end product was PERFECT! We will always offer both paneled and membrane headsails to fit your budget and style. Our Dacron has enjoyed some finishing upgrades this year, which

FINN NEWS - Darrell Peck has continued winning through the spring months by taking both the North Americans in Texas and ABYC OCR in back to back events. Darrell is a huge fan of our AP Poly sail made of Bainbridgeʼs SL-500 cloth. Heʼs getting geared up for the US Nationals in a few weeks. Good luck to D and all our customers!

FLYING SCOT NEWS - Paul Abdullah has been all over the country this year sailing Scots and has had great success, namely in tying for 1st in the Great 48 this spring. Paul teamed up with customer Ira Cohen at the NAs and had a great experience, though in a shortened event for their team. You can find him campaigning throughout the Southeast this fall and winter. His attention to detail will make our already fast sails even better!

J24 NEWS - Last fall we tested out our entire line of J24 sails in Jacksonville and tweaked until we got everything finalized in December! Since then, our sails have been active throughout the USA. Greg Griffin qualified for the World Championship by winning the Kingʼs Day event in November! Our Dacron Main, Blade and Airx Spinnakers are refined shapes and will propel you straight away! For genoas, we have two options. Our membrane is flatter & straighter in the exit. This is great for flatter water venues. Our XC paneled Technora Genoa is a fuller, more powerful sail for those that sail in the lump. Feel free to call the loft to learn more!
