News from the Southeast - Paul Abdullah

It has been a very busy summer for me down here in Jacksonville. Sailing usually slows down with the summer months, but not this year. This is mainly due to the Thistle Nationals over in Pensacola.

I had the distinct honor of being the 2011 Chairman of the National Championship. Having served this role a time before, I knew what I was in for and with my partners at Pensacola Yacht Club everything ran smoothly.

Iʼve been sailing in a number of different classes too. I ventured into the Flying Scot this spring and had a great regatta in Charlotte with the Great 48. We ended up tying for 1st, but losing the tie-break. Still a good show and from my perspective of being brand new to the boat and class, our set up and sails were perfect. I look forward to sailing more throughout the Florida circuit this winter.

Iʼve also sailed the J24 a bunch locally and throughout the USA. In October I am heading to Puerto Vallarta, MEX for the Pan Am Games. I was excited to be asked by John Mollicone to participate and look forward to this experience.

Of course Thistle sailing is always strong in the Southeast. The spring series was successful and my good buddy Greg Griffin won nearly everything he competed in and easily won the SE Spring Series. The Fall Series is coming up and the competition should yield some great racing. Come on out and join the fun! Iʼll be around to lend a hand wherever I can!

As we head into the fall, be sure to give me a shout with regard to our Fall Sail Special. Whether you have a question about a certain design, or delivery options, Iʼm happy to help and do my part to help promote sailing throughout the Southeast!
