Thistle Upwind

The purpose of this video was to further analyze the sail shape for the designers at Dieball Sailing. What it allows Thistle Sailors to see is the amount of mast bend and how it reacts to the breeze and load.
Focus in on the top spreader in relation to the grating on near the mast step. As the vang & sheet tension are applied, the mast goes through a range of bend.
You will also notice the amount of forestay sag induced due to the pressure of the boat loading and the amount of wind. This is factored into the Dieball Sailing Thistle sails and how we address our tuning guide.
