2010 Highlander Potluck Regatta
Congratulations to Dieball Sailing customer Harold Bauer on his win at the inaugural Highlander Potluck Regatta at Cave Run!
The Potluck was a new regatta this year and was the brain child of Bryan Hollingsworth with the help of his family. Cave Run Lake is a beautiful place to sail and an awesome place to camp and just hang out for a weekend.
Saturday was sunny and warm but blowing in the low 20's, not your best Highlander sailing conditions. It had also been raining for about two weeks and the lake was about 13 feet above normal! Launching was challenging but the Highlander fleet was certainly up to it as everyone wanted a chance to sail five races on this beautiful lake. John Emmerich and his crew got all of the races in on Sunday in a nice 5 to 7MPH breeze. It took me a little time to get things dialed in. Typical inland sailing, we (more like "I") botched the first race as I completely misjudged the favored side of the course. The subsequent races were much better and landed us in the top three in the next four.
There was plenty of good sailing and a lot of the top competition was there.
We're looking forward to returning next year! Our thanks to the Hollingsworth family for a great time at an awesome venue. Special thanks to John and Connie Emmerich for "Gettin' it done!"
I'm sailing sails from the Toledo loft. I really like the the fact that they're easy to set up and trim. I need that!
