2010 Indianapolis Lightning Regatta

Congrats to Dieball Sailing customer George Sipel, Jeff Hagman & Nate Alt on their victory at Indy. Check out Geo's report!

48th Burl Harmon Memorial Indiana Open May 1-2, 2010

The Indy Open was held at the Indianapolis Sailing Club on Geist Reservoir with 14 boats attending.

We arrived at the club to see partly cloudy skies and 10-20 mph winds a welcome site considering the forecast was for heavy rain and thunderstorms. With temps in the 70’s it was shaping up to be a great day of sailing!

As we left the dock on Saturday winds were gusting in the mid 20’s out of the south.  The Race Committee did a great job getting in 6 races!  At the end of the day we were sitting in first with Debbie Probst and James Taylor tied for second.

Saturday night fleet 270 treated us to a steak dinner along with free beer which made for the perfect ending to a great day of sailing.

On Sunday morning we were greeted with similar conditions as Saturday with lighter winds 6-12 mph and very shifty…..conditions more typical for Geist.   After a short postponement we headed out on the water.   Again the Race Committee did a great job sneaking in 3 more races before the cut off.  We managed to fend of a charge from team Probst to win the regatta.
