2011 DaySailer North Americans - Lakewood, TX
Congrats to Mike & Mardi Gillum for winning the 2011 DaySailer North Americans powered by Dieball Sailing DS Sails! Mike sent this upon his return home!
You can add the 2011 Daysailer North American Championship to the Dieball Sailing list of wins!
Mardi and I won the six race series at Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, Texas yesterday by a single point over Mike McCaffrey #3797 after tossing our opening race 6th place and counting a 2,2,1,2,2 series for 9 points overall to Mike’s 10 points overall.
Mike McCaffrey and his son Eric have previously won 2006 DS NAC’s and have been perpetually in the top three since then. They are great competitors and it was fun, tough racing! The other Dieball boats racing included Craig Lee #316 in third overall, Steve Lowry #307 in fourth overall, and Bob Damon #13156 in 11th overall.
A true testimony of raw speed is sometimes measured in race wins. Dieball Sailing equipped boats won the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th races overall with a clean sweep of the top three places in the 2nd race.
We didn’t race Wednesday due to severe thunderstorms the better part of the day. Thursday’s conditions ranged from shifty and light with flat water in the first couple of races to the low 20’s with wicked chop for the fourth race that Mardi and I won by half a leg. Friday saw 10-20 with moderate chop. Our speed throughout the regatta was stellar in a wide wind spectrum and sea states. Our speed really impressed several in the DS Class.
Thanks to Rick for designing a great set of sails!
